Professional Photo Restoration in Henderson and Las Vegas

Preserve the photograph. Protect the memory.

Old photographs hold more than an image. They carry the faces, places, and moments that tell your family’s story.

Unfortunately, photographs don’t always age well. They fade, change color, crack, tear, and become damaged over time. Sometimes the only photograph you have of someone you love is already showing its age.

At Mikel’s Photography & Design, I professionally copy and restore old photographs for families throughout Henderson, Las Vegas, Boulder City and Southern Nevada.

After more than 30 years of working professionally with photographs—and more than 25 years restoring them—I understand how important it is to preserve the character of the original. My goal isn’t to make someone look artificial or turn an old photograph into something it never was. My goal is to bring back the detail, color, and appearance that time and damage have taken away.

Call 702-564-7166 or email Mikel@MikelsPhotography.com to schedule a complimentary restoration consultation.

What types of photographs can be restored?

Every photograph is different, which is why I personally evaluate each one before beginning the work.

Restoration may include:

  • Correcting faded or discolored photographs
  • Repairing tears, cracks and creases
  • Removing scratches, spots and stains
  • Rebuilding damaged or missing areas
  • Correcting yellow, red, blue or uneven color shifts
  • Improving faded black-and-white photographs
  • Restoring military and historical photographs
  • Copying fragile photographs that should no longer be handled
  • Creating enlargements from small original photographs
  • Preparing photographs for memorial or funeral displays
  • Making additional copies for children and grandchildren
  • Optional colorization when it is appropriate and requested

Not every damaged photograph can be made perfect, but many photographs can be improved far beyond what families expect. I’ll give you an honest evaluation of what I believe can be restored before the work begins.

LEARN MORE

Your original photograph stays here in Henderson

You shouldn’t have to mail an irreplaceable family photograph across the country and hope it comes back safely.

Your original photograph is brought to my studio at 155 S. Water Street in Henderson. I create a high-resolution digital copy and perform the restoration on that copy. The original is not painted over, cut, changed or physically repaired.

Your original remains safely at the studio and is returned to you when the project is completed.

My photo-restoration process

1. Personal evaluation

Bring the original photograph to the studio so I can examine its condition, size and level of damage. There is no charge for me to look at the photograph and explain what I believe can be done.

2. Professional copying and scanning

The photograph is carefully copied or scanned at high resolution. I preserve an unedited master before beginning the restoration work.

3. Individual restoration

I personally evaluate and correct the photograph. This may include repairing damage, restoring contrast, correcting color, rebuilding missing areas and carefully improving the details.

Technology can help with parts of the process, but the final decisions are made by an experienced photographer. Every face, expression and important detail is reviewed so the finished image remains faithful to the original person and photograph.

4. Finished photographs and files

Once the restoration is complete, we can create professional photographic prints, enlargements, additional family copies or wall portraits. Digital-file options are also available.

Photo-restoration pricing

Basic professional scanning, color correction, and restoration work starts at $100 per photograph. Photographs requiring extensive repair, reconstruction, or replacement of missing areas are quoted individually.

Photographs with extensive damage, large missing areas, heavy staining, or complex reconstruction are quoted individually after I examine the original.

If you have several photographs from the same family collection, bring them together. I can evaluate the entire group and provide a combined estimate when appropriate.

Professional prints, enlargements, additional copies, and wall art options are priced separately.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I have an old photograph restored in Henderson?

You can bring your photograph to Mikel’s Photography & Design at 155 S. Water Street, Suite 100, in Henderson, Nevada. Call 702-564-7166 to arrange a complimentary evaluation.

Will the original photograph be altered?

No. The restoration is completed on a high-resolution digital copy. Your original photograph is preserved and returned to you unchanged.

Can you make copies without doing a complete restoration?

Yes. I can professionally copy photographs and create additional prints or enlargements. Minor color and exposure correction may also be completed when needed.

Can a badly torn or faded photograph really be restored?

Many severely faded, torn or stained photographs can be greatly improved. The amount of recoverable detail depends on the original, so I need to examine it before promising a specific result.

Can you restore both black-and-white and color photographs?

Yes. I restore black-and-white, sepia, and color photographs. Colorization of black-and-white photographs can also be discussed when requested.

What if I no longer have the original?

The original photograph usually yields the best result, but I can evaluate an existing scan, digital file, or printed copy if the original is no longer available.

How long does restoration take?

Turnaround depends on the amount of damage and the complexity of the restoration. I’ll provide an estimated completion time after examining the photograph. Most restoration projects require at least two weeks, depending on the amount of damage and complexity of the work.

Let’s see what can be saved

If you have an old family photograph tucked away in a box, album or drawer, don’t wait until it fades further.

Bring it to the studio and let’s look at it together. I’ll explain what can realistically be restored and help you choose the best way to preserve and share it with your family.
